Due: Final Essays and Books in class

In class, students took their 4th vocab. quiz for the quarter. Then, they previewed books for our next literature circle and listed the top 3 books they found interesting. Then, students had the rest of the class time to read.

HW: Vocab. Quiz 3 Corrections due Monday & Persepolis permission forms due Monday!

Due: Rough Draft must be finished!

In class, students peer edited and started writing the final copy of their School Issues Letters.

Wednesday, February 24

Due: (1) Vocab. Flashcards and (2) First 3 paragraphs of essay

In class, students wrote the last 2 paragraphs of their school issues essays. I also met with each student to discuss the first half of their essays.

HW: Finish Rough Draft of your essay!

Tuesday, February 23

Due: Completed Pre-Writing

In class, we discussed the introduction paragraph as well as the first 2 body paragraphs of students' essays. Students were then given the remainder of class time to work on these first 3 paragraphs.

HW: Vocab. Flashcards due tomorrow AND First 3 paragraphs of essay due tomorrow!

Monday, February 22

Due: None.

In class, students had independent reading time. Then, we reviewed some notes about Persuasive Writing and students had time to start the pre-writing for their essays.

Friday, February 19

Due: Photo Permission Form & Fieldtrip Permission

IN class, students took their vocabulary quiz and had the remainder of class time to make up missing work and/or read!

In class, students created their own editorial cartoons based on their chosen school issue.

Today in class students analyzed a variety of editorial cartoons. Then, they determined the school issue they are going to focus on in their own editorial cartoons tomorrow.

Tuesday, February 16

Due: None.

In class, students viewed three commercials and looked for different methods of persuasion used in the commercials. Then, we discussed issues within the school and had mini-debates about those issues.

Monday, February 15

Due: None.

In class, students read as a warm up. Then we discussed the different types of persuasion and students created skits to practice using these different types.

Due: Rwanda Letters and Book in class

In class, students took their 2nd vocab quiz and read their independent reading books.

In class students wrote their letters to their Rwandan Pen Pals.

HW: Study for vocab. quiz #2 tomorrow. Bring independent reading book. If you took your pen pal letter home, finish it and bring it back tomorrow! :)

In class, students had time to read and organize their binders. Then, I introduced our Rwanda Pen Pal project and students started brainstorming about letter topics.
